Training

I provide training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) for school staff, psychologists and other mental health professionals working with young people.

My workshops focus on building practical understanding and confidence in using DBT skills with dysregulated children and adolescents. Training sessions are highly interactive and experiential, allowing participants to learn the skills while also experiencing how they can be applied in real-life settings.

  • Understanding of the foundational principles of DBT.

  • Core DBT skills (mindfulness, distres tolerance, emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness).

  • Using DBT in individual and group therapy with children and adolescents.

  • Effective ways to structure DBT groups for children and adolescents in schools and other services

  • Understanding the psycho-social nature of emotional and behavioural dysregulation in children and adolescents.

  • balancing the change and acceptance dialectic in therapy with young people.

  • The importance of building trust and safety in therapy.

  • Finding the unique strengths and inner wisdom in young people to guide intervention.

  • Supporting young people who engage in high-risk behaviours.

  • Managing suicidal ideation and non-suicidal self-injury with compassion, according to the 2026 evidence-based clinical guidelines.

  • Responding to crisis and intense emotions.

  • Engaging families and core support symptoms in treatment.
